Even though Ram Gopal Varma has lost his charm, he continues to make films that no one cares about these days. His latest movie Ammayi released today and let's see how it fares.
Pooja (Pooja Bhalekar) is an ardent fan of Bruce Lee and comes to town to learn martial arts. He starts training under a big coach who is under huge pressure to vacate his house worth crores. The bad guys (Abhimanyu Singh and co) kill the coach and Pooja is left alone to handle the situation. How he deals with the situation is the entire story of the film.
Of late, it has been very difficult to score extra points in RGV. One such asset is the main lead Pooja Bhalekar. He is good in all the action blocks and does a sincere job in the film. Pooja is quite flexible and has an athletic body.
Abhimanyu Singh is good in his negative role. The actor who played Pooja's boyfriend was decent. The climax sequence is well shot and shows the action block attractively.
The film is full of so many flaws that it is impossible to mention them all here. Let's start with the story of the film. The script is so old and mundane that there is absolutely nothing new to talk about.
RGV is an ardent fan of Bruce Lee and could have met Pooja Bhalekar who is also a martial artist in real life. He adopted him as a hero to show him what moves he could do to emulate Bruce Lee.
RGV shows his 'Paithyam' by giving the hero a two piece bikini in all the fights and after a while he shows it off in the sexiest way.
Emotion and drama are the main assets in any RGV film, but in Ammayi, nothing happens here and the performances of C-grade actors make you nervous.
Camera work is fine. The music is impressive and so was the BGM. The production values are good and so are the lyrics. As far as the RGV director is concerned, the less we say about him, the better. He lost it because all his movies these days are full of crap and Ammayi is no exception. In the name of an action movie, all it shows is semi-nudity in slow motion.
All in all, Ammayi is an action drama that looks dated, cheap and lacks any underlying soul. RGV loves Bruce Lee and showcased his acting style through heroine Pooja Bhalekar who is vulgar and offers nothing new. Stay away from it.
