Alice in Borderland Season 2
Episode No 7 Recap
At Shibuya Crossing grown up, Chishiya appears and reunites with Arisu. However, their reunion is short-lived when Niragi appears and shoots Chishiya. He immediately confronts Arisu and decides to play another game with them all, a makeshift game of Russian Roulette.
Niragi throws the gun at Chishiya and the three end up fighting. That is, until Arisu decided to confront Niragi with his gun. Arisu is destined to make her own choice in this world - which of course resonates with Chishiya as she experiences the same thing with Kuzuryu. When Niragi appears, he immediately starts shooting at Usagi, which was not part of the game. When she opens fire, Chishia is interrupted and prevents Usagi from getting shot by taking a bullet for the team. After all this, Chishiya dies.
They don't have time to mourn because a gun appears for the King of Spades. Usagi and Arisu immediately hear the gunfire and decide to hide behind the cars. Kuina and Ann survive their game and return to the group... Arisu lies and claims that Chishiya is fine.
When Ann is captured, the entire group works together to take down the King of Spades, a car runs over her and dismembers her. However, despite being engulfed in flames, the boy manages to emerge from the wreckage and continues to fire. This guy is some kind of military commando and he's also wearing a bullet proof suit. Akane also walks in with Aguni as our jumble of characters is finally reunited. Aguni concludes that supplies are being dropped from the anti-tank gun and they should try to distract the commandos and attack when they run out of bullets.
They also have Chishiya's lucky bomb, and if they could go to the pharmacy and gas it up, it would cause an explosion big enough to turn the tide of the battle in their favor. Aguni decides to be the bait in all this. He forces his enemies into an alley so he can't get more ammo than the projectile.
The group all work together to take out the commando as he walks towards them in the alley. Everyone works together and makes sure he's out of ammo. Akane is sprayed with bullets in the confrontation, and Ann takes multiple bullets. Aguni is enraged and immediately attacks the King, knocking him down with kicks and punches. Kuina jumps in, but she gets stabbed several times in the gut.
Usagi is stabbed several times in the thigh when she jumps on his back before being thrown down an alley, while Aguni manages to load the gun with a stray bullet. As he does, the King does the same and shoots Agu. The king is still alive despite all this.
Arisu sees all this and lures the King to the pharmacy, where he activates numerous spray cans. The king has second thoughts and decides not to enter until Aguni, who is still alive only after the bullet hits the side of his head, throws him from behind and throws the man inside. Everything happens in a blur.
Arisu throws the can, jumps out the window with Aguni, who turns and fires at the canister (presumably another bullet was found) and it explodes, knocking them both to the ground outside.
Miraculously, Aguni is still alive and he helps Arisu up before he falls to the ground, breathing and telling Arisu to go for the end game. After all this, Aguni finds the King, who is still alive, but barely. He hands over the pistol, begging for mercy. "I'm sorry. It was the only way I could save you." Commando says frantically, flashbacks to an earlier time when he was a soldier and killed a beggar, Aguni finally gives it to him, firing at the King, landing his shell in the process.
Meanwhile, Ann succumbs to her injuries, Kunai becomes enraged and tends to her wounds in an alley. Chishiya is still alive as Akane struggles. The endgame is about to begin, and it comes from the Queen of Hearts, as the gun arrives and the last two registered players - Arisu and Usagi - prepare for what's to come.
And what better way to finish things off than with a game that looks a lot like Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts? And guess what? There's croquet too! As for the queen, she introduces herself as none other than Mira. Of course!
Episode Review
What an intense episode. It's all been leading up to this as we see Arisu and Usagi face off against the mad queen in this final game.
Before we even get there, episode 7 is essentially one big bloodbath, a tense standoff involving the King of Spades that ends with his plot armor cracking and our characters coming out on top. There's a lot of death and destruction here too, starting with Niragi and then building up to this intense fight in the alley.
The production design for this second season has also been a step up, and you can really see it with the expansive sets and increased CGI. Small nods to Alice in Wonderland are dotted throughout this show, working to give it a surreal edge while also harkening back to the literary classic.
After an extended chapter, everything is left open for where this chapter can go next.
