Young actor Vishwak Sen, who had a good youth, has now come up with a rom-com Ori Devuda directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. The film features Victory Venkatesh in a cameo role. Mithila Palkar and Asha Bhat make their debut. The movie released today and let's see how it fares.

  Story:

On Anu's request, Arjun marries Anu and starts a new life. Arjun joins his father-in-law's office but is worried about the job. At the same time, he develops feelings for Meera (Asha Bhat), a senior at the school. So Arjun files for divorce but Anu faints in court due to Venkatesh's divine intervention. Almighty God gives him a second chance to revive his life. What Arjun does with his second chance forms the crux of the story.

  Extra Points:

It is an ordinary love story, but the director gives the fantasy touch brilliantly. Venkatesh's godlike character adds novelty and interest to the proceedings. Venkatesh is charming as always and excels in the cameo.

We have seen Vishwak Sen playing a soft role in his previous film. With Ori Devuda, Vishwak once again proves that he can adapt to different roles as well. He emotes quite well in emotional scenes and does fine acting which the film demands. The actor showed enough variation in his role.

Mithila Palkar gave a good performance as the cheerleader. Her chemistry with Vishvak Sen is good. Especially in the climactic parts, his acting is beautiful. Asha Bhat also plays a meaty role in the film. Her character is well written and she gets a hilarious dance number to showcase her dancing skills.

The second half of the film offers a merry ride with few dramatic moments. The story is well paced in this part. The fun parts are fair as the comedy punchlines written by Tharun Bhascker make us laugh well. A lighthearted treatment keeps the film simple.

  Negative points:

It takes time for the film to move to the real plot. It's only in the second half that most of the story happens, and the first hour doesn't offer much. The pace is very slow in the first half. If the process had been more drastic, the overall effect could have been higher.

The film drags in places and the editing team had to chop the film up a bit to make the subjects more compelling. A few scenes lack punch and the film becomes a bit boring at this point. Anu's characterization also requires more depth. We cannot see much of Anu.

The VFX work is patchy at places in the film and looks weird on the big screen. This rom-com may not suit all sections of the audience. At the same time, the film is not very strong.

 Technical Aspects:

Leon James's music is a pleasure to listen to. Gundellona and Avunanava songs attract attention and add to the impact of the drama. Vidhu Ayyana's camera work is fair. Production values are decent.

As we said earlier, the editing team had to cut the film a little shorter. As for director Ashwath Marimuthu, he does a decent job with the remake. His narration in the second part is more engaging, but his script in the first hour is not as impressive.

  Verdict:

All in all, Ori Devuda is a decent rom-com that offers a pleasant drama in the second half. All the lead cast are doing well and the songs also help the film immensely. Apart from a good first half, the movie is a watchable rom-com this weekend.
