Movie Review
The concept of re-calling the elections is well done in the film. The questions addressed to several politicians in the country look like a novel and are beautifully executed by director Karthik Reddy. Some political scenes in the first half, Vishnu speaking highly of Posani's track and country, all these episodes were well acted.
Vishnu is good in his role. The action sequence where he saves his sister is very well done by the talented actor. Surabhi looks charming and provides good eye candy for the audience.
Sampath Raj is excellent as the central minister and does well in his role.
Although the concept of re-calling elections is good and executed well in the first half, things get disappointing in the second half. They drag on for no reason and bore the second half of the audience. During this time, everything becomes very cinematic.
The hero-villain conflict is not well established in the film. The scenes about the recall elections are not very impressive. The rest of the commercial aspects like emotions, action and tragedy seem a bit forced in the second half.
Aswin's camera work is quite good as several scenes in the political background are shown well. The editing is almost as good as many scenes in the second half could have been edited out. The music is almost as good and so was the background score. The film's production values are high.
As for director Karthik, his concept seems fresh and he narrates the film well till the halfway point. But it loses its grip in the second half as everything seems forced and doesn't have much effect.
Overall, "The Voter" is a political drama with a good concept but a flawed explanation. The political set-up scenes are good in the first half, but things bog down in the second half as forced emotions, lack of connect factor and routine routines make things confusing. All those who love political dramas can give this movie a chance, but the rest can ignore the movie and look for something else this weekend.
