Movie Review

Swapna(Taapsee) is a video game developer who mainly works from home. The moment he gets a tattoo on his hand, his life is turned upside down. He starts having strange dreams and is targeted by some evil invaders who try to kill him in his house. Who are these people? What are all dreams made of? and how will Taapsee deal with her internal and external problems? To know all this, you need to watch the movie on the big screen.

The film is well written as the script has many layers. Sometimes it's like watching a horror movie, then the proceedings have a lot of tension and create good thrills, especially in the second half.

Game Over is primarily clicked because of Taapsee's screen presence and performance. Of late, Taapsee has become a powerhouse performer and she does so once again in this film. Taapsee's expressions and the way she shows her desperation in the crisis scenes are top notch in the film. He is confined to a wheelchair most of the time in the film and gives his best in every scene.

The second half is where the actual action takes place. The thrills, the suspense and the performances created during this period are very good. The various twists that come during this time are well executed.

Not to say it's a drawback, but the entire first half is very slow and takes forever to get to the actual point. Although the film's running time is short, this part seems long and does not have many exciting or suspenseful episodes.

Another drawback of the movie is that it has a clever script which is a bit confusing for the common man. The house is invaded by strangers and their whereabouts and connection to the plot had to be explained in detail.

A lot is left to the intellect of the audience and it can be a bit intense and confusing for the average viewer.

Ron Johann's music for the film is amazing. His work especially in the second half takes the film to another level. The art design and the way the house is built looks good. The editing is good, but the first half could have been cut more.

As for director Ashwin Saravanan, he has done a decent job with the film. He takes his time to build the story and speeds up his story in the second half. The writing is good but if he made the plot more simple and comprehensible to every section of the audience, everything would have been better. The situation is such that there will be many doubts in the minds of the audience which need to be well explained.

Overall Review

All in all, Game Over is a psychological thriller with an interesting second half. Taapsee leads the way with an outstanding performance. A slow first half and confusing narration at certain places are drawbacks. This movie is clearly for the multiplex audience as normal people might find things a bit confusing. If you can sit through the boring first half, things get really interesting in this thriller and it pays off for a decent watch this weekend.
