Kartikeya of RX 100 fame is back with another youth romantic drama titled Hippi. Directed by TN Krishna, the film was released to the public today. Let's see how it is.
Storyline
Hippi Devadas (Kartikeya), who is already in a relationship with a girl named Sneha, falls in love with his close friend Amuktamalayada (Digangana Suryavanshi) and breaks up with the first girl. After continuous harassment from Deva, Amuktamalaya finally says yes to his proposal. The real story begins when both of them get into a serious relationship. What kind of insecurity will the young couple face during this time? Will they continue their relationship and make it forever? To know this, you need to watch the movie in nearby cinemas.
Hero Karthikeya's makeup as a stylish and fashionable young man is good. She has maintained her well-toned body and surprises with her six-pack abs.
Hero Digangana Suryavanshi is the show stealer. It impresses with its cute appearance. His screen presence and energetic performance bring some depth to the proceedings.
The chemistry between the lead pair is realistically displayed. The romantic episode between the lead couple during the climax will fascinate the young audience.
Nice to see JD Chakravarthy on screen after a short hiatus. He is good in his role. Comedian Vennela Kishore creates several laughs with her spontaneous funny dialogues.
The major drawback of the film is that the narration lacks proper flow. From the very first scene, you get the feeling of watching another typical love story with an unbearable narration.
The important drama and romance between the lead pair is not built properly as unnecessary arguments are thrown at you all the time.
Straight Movie
Overall, though the movie is a straight Telugu movie, somewhere the proceedings make you feel like you are watching a dubbed movie.
Director TN Krishna's idea of making a love story set in modern times is good. But unfortunately, he forgot to update the story style. From the screenplay to the narration, the film is handled in an old fashioned manner and hence the proceedings were predictable.
Editing by Praveen K. L is not up to par as nearly twenty minutes of the film could easily be cut. R. D. Rajasekhar's cinematography is almost as good and could have been better. But he captured Goa beautifully in two songs.
Nivas K. Prasanna's music is decent as the two romantic numbers in the first half are good. His background score fails to create magic at the crucial moment of the film. The production values are top notch by top producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu's V Creations.
Overall, Hippie is a stylish romantic film that fails to impress the audience. Hero Karthikeya and heroine Digangan lead and make the proceedings engaging but abrupt narrations with double meaning dialogues completely spoil the plot making it a boring watch this weekend.
